work does not make a life

A lot of us have obligations, responsibilities and we wish we can cast them away and go along our merry path but being a human makes it impossible. We slave away for prior obligations, sacrifices that were made in order to get us to where we are today(even though we didn’t ask for it) and we can’t just turn our back on it. So we work, earn money and pay our debts.

You don’t have to feel bad if you don’t love what you do. Its okay to bitch about the job. Contrary to popular opinion, it is not necessary to love your work. When you work, you are doing something for someone else, not for you and sometime, it is difficult to experience meaningfulness from that work but remember, you are doing it because the credit that you get from this is much easier and higher than from other work(or else you would be doing that) which in turn will fuel your aspirations.

You can’t love something if you are not doing it for yourself.

Toni Morrison:

  1. Whatever the work is, do it well—not for the boss but for yourself.

  2. You make the job; it doesn’t make you.

  3. Your real life is with us, your family.

  4. You are not the work you do; you are the person you are.
